The BPAA is committed to making sure that our members and supporters are as informed as possible about the impact the COVID-19 pandemic is having on our province, our publishing community, and the larger book world. As we move through the relaunch strategy, the BPAA will continue to update this page with current information and new resources that will assist our community through the recovery process. Vaccines
The Canadian COVID-19 proof of vaccination is available in all provinces and territories. Access your copy here.
Grants, Funding, and Loans
- The Hardest-Hit Business Recovery Program, providing support through wage and rent subsidies to businesses that have faced deep losses, can be retroactively applied for periods up May 7, 2022. More details can be found here.
- The Canada Recovery Hiring Program provides support for eligible employers with current revenue losses above 10 per cent. The program can be retroactively applied for periods up to May 7, 2022. More information about eligibility and application details can be found here.

All remaining mandatory public health restrictions in Alberta were lifted on June 14 as the Omicron BA.2 wave subsides and COVID-19 hospitalizations continue to decline. For more information, visit the Government of Alberta’s website here.
All Albertans 6 months+ can get vaccinated. Everyone 18 years+ can get a fourth dose 5 months after the third dose. More information about vaccines and rapid testing can be found here.

Bookstores
Chapters Indigo has reopened all stores across Canada with new safety protocols in place.
Barnes and Noble has reopened all of their stores to the public with safety precautions in place for customers and booksellers.
Alberta Independent Bookstore Information
Many of the bookstores throughout Alberta have now reopened to the public with extra safety precautions in place, although some are still operating at reduced hours. A list of indie publishers across Canada is linked below.
