November 3, 2026: Media Release: Alberta Book Publishers Celebrate Ninth Annual Alberta Book Day

Edmonton, Alberta – The members of the Book Publishers Association of Alberta (BPAA) wish to thank the Alberta Government and The Honourable Tanya Fir, Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women,  for declaring November 3, 2026 as the ninth annual Alberta Book Day. Recognized each November, Alberta Book Day is an annual celebration of Alberta’s thriving book publishing industry.

Alberta book publishers produce books by local authors that showcase the perspectives, themes, and landscapes of our province, giving readers access to uniquely Albertan stories that are not well-represented in mainstream publishing. They work with writers, printers, artists, and other creative people to produce high-quality books that are sold in Alberta and throughout the world. Alberta’s book publishing industry contributes an estimated $16.7 million to Alberta’s GDP and 135 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs. Through this employment, the industry supports $7.5 million in labour income.

“When you read an Alberta-published book, you are supporting Alberta-owned and -operated small businesses that contribute to our local economy and amplify the stories of our province,” said Megan Bishop, Executive Director of the BPAA. “It is essential to invest in and support the Alberta book publishing industry to ensure we continue to have the capacity to develop, publish, and promote Alberta stories here at home.”

Alberta book publishers will be gathering at the Alberta Legislature today to display their books and meet with MLAs and government staff. Readers are encouraged to join in the celebration by posting about their favourite Alberta-published book using the hashtag #ABBookDay and tagging @WeReadAB.
