Media Release — Alberta Book Publishers Celebrate Seventh Annual Alberta Book Day
Posted .
Edmonton – The members of the Book Publishers Association of Alberta (BPAA) wish to thank the Alberta Government and Minister Tanya Fir for declaring November 5, 2024, as the seventh annual “Alberta Book Day”. The day is dedicated to recognizing Alberta book publishers’ important contribution to the culture, economy, and entertainment of our province.
Alberta’s book publishers are gathering at the Alberta Legislature to display their diverse and award-winning books to MLAs and government staff and showcase the importance of the government’s investment in the growth of our local publishing industry.
“It’s important that we celebrate the strong publishing industry we have cultivated in our province,” said Kieran Leblanc, Executive Director of the BPAA. “Alberta’s book publishers work tirelessly to ensure that local authors are supported and our province’s stories and perspectives are shared locally and nationally. We are thrilled to share with MLAs and their staff the books published in our province and highlight the importance of the government’s investment in the publishing industry.”
The book publishing industry in Alberta is an important part of the provincial economy and resonates throughout a variety of sectors, such as tourism, culture, health, and education. With 23 companies, Alberta book publishers create roughly 100 full-time jobs and nearly $6 million in wages and salaries, and contribute over $14 million annually to the provincial economy. They also contribute to our children’s education by supplying high-quality, locally-produced resources for both teachers and students in Alberta. Local publishers are essential to sharing Alberta’s Story with Canada and the world.
