Media Release – Alberta Books for Schools is connecting local books to Alberta classrooms

Edmonton – Following last year’s inaugural catalogue, the Book Publishers Association of Alberta is pleased to announce the release of the 2023/24 Alberta Books for Schools catalogue and updated digital database, a resource designed for educators, libraries and booksellers to discover Alberta-published books. The new edition of the catalogue features more than 90 titles, and the digital database has been expanded to 153 titles.

Alberta Books for Schools consists of a printed annual catalogue of selected titles as well as a convenient, continually updated digital database. All titles include curriculum connections and grade levels provided by curriculum mappers from The Alberta Library. Accessible audiobooks and eBooks with enhanced accessibility features are clearly indicated, to allow educators to easily find the right formats for their students.

“Alberta Books for Schools continues to showcase the critical role Alberta book publishers play in educating our children by providing quality, Alberta-published resources to our educators and librarians,” says Kieran Leblanc, Executive Director of the Book Publishers Association of Alberta. “We look forward to adding to this accessible and diverse collection each year, as our publishers continue to publish titles that share Alberta’s unique cultural identity and heritage. It is our hope that this project will inspire increased investment in Alberta’s book publishing industry.”

The printed catalogue is distributed each fall to Alberta schools, libraries, and booksellers, and made available to Canadian library wholesalers, teachers’ associations, and other industry stakeholders. A searchable database of the entire collection can be accessed at

Thank you to our funders for their continued support, in particular the Government of Alberta and the Canada Book Fund, to make this project possible.
