Your Alberta Story – Campaign Update
Posted .
During Alberta’s 2023 provincial election, the Book Publishers Association of Alberta (BPAA) launched the Your Alberta Story campaign. We asked candidates and Albertans to submit their stories, describing what part they have played in creating the vibrant and diverse province we all call home.
You can read the stories we have received so far here. If you’ve already participated, thank you! If you have not participated yet, please take this opportunity to submit your story and complete a short survey about Alberta’s book publishing industry.
Throughout the campaign, we have also been gathering the views of Albertans on their book publishing industry. In April we commissioned Trend Research to conduct a random survey of 900 Albertans.
82% of respondents believe Alberta having its own book publishing industry is important and 83% believe that Alberta should invest in its book publishers to the same level as other provinces.
We think it is important that the unique stories of our province continue to be told. That is why Alberta book publishers are asking our provincial government to establish a $5 million Alberta Book Publishers Fund to invest in the long-term growth and stability of this important economic and cultural sector. This investment has the potential to increase Alberta’s GDP by nearly $4.6 million, create roughly 35 full-time jobs, and generate roughly $2.3 million in labour income. 72% of respondents agree that Alberta should invest $5 million into an Alberta Book Publishers Fund. The Your Alberta Story campaign is gaining momentum and will continue after the election. Keep an eye on our website and social media (@ABbookpub) for updates!
