March 7, 2018: Professional Development – Maria Antas – FBM2020 Mentorship (Members Only)

In partnership with FBM2020, the organization that has been formed to facilitate Canada’s readiness to participate in the Frankfurt 2020 Fair, and the Association of Book Publishers of B.C., we are bringing Maria Antas from Berlin, Germany to B.C. and Alberta for consultation with our member publishers. Maria has extensive experience in the German publishing community, and has been a consultant for other countries who have been the Country at Honour in Frankfurt.

Maria will be available for one-on-one meetings with BPAA member publishers in Edmonton (March 7) and Calgary (March 8). For more information please contact Leslie Bush at the BPAA.

Maria Antas, born 1964 in Porvoo, Finland, is a Finnish author and literary agent. Her work “A large book about cleaning” received an award from the Swedish Literature Society prize in 2014.

Antas has worked as a researcher in the Swedish Literature Society in Finland and as a literary critic before she became editor-in-chief of the feminist cultural magazine Astra Nova in the millennium. She is also active in Finnish Literature Exchange, presenting Finnish literature abroad, and as Program Manager for Finland’s Theme Initiative FINLAND. COOL. at the International Book Fair in Frankfurt 2014. Since 2015, she has operated literary agency Antas Bindermann Listau in Berlin.

Antas was the Head of Literature Programme for the Finnish Guest of Honour project for the 2014 Frankfurt Book Fair and is currently the advisor for the Georgian Guest of Honour project for the 2018 Frankfurt Book Fair. She has been consulting for CANADA FBM2020 since March 2017.
